When you're planning on taking that nice relaxing boating trip to your vacation destination, be sure to check your safety equipment before you leave.

Check your fire extinguishers to make sure they have not drained and the gauge still indicates that it is good. Visibly check the extinguisher itself for any cracks or abnormalities.

Make sure your flares have not expired or are about to expire. Flares can make a difference if in the event that you may need to be rescued. Please don't take a chance on firing expired flares. Also, if they are expired, please dispose of them properly.

Check your first aid kits to make sure that the contents are not damaged and is fully stock for emergencies.

And one of the most important safety checks that you can do, is to make sure there are plenty of life jackets onboard. By rule they should always be worn while underway and they should be easily accessible. Check to make sure they are in good condition and that they fit properly. Use the proper size life jackets for children/ infants.
